Blue Jays Suffer Again After Red Sox Dominate With Convincing Win

John Gibbons with Tim MayzaBoston Red Sox are sitting comfortably on top of the points table as they have been playing consistently well all seasons. The Toronto Blue Jays on the other hand are in fifth place and have continued to be dominated by the Red Sox.

Their recent encounter at the Rogers Centre on August 30th proved to be no different as the Red Sox completed a three game sweep with a 7-1 victory.

Toronto Blue Jays were playing in front of their home crowd and were expected to take advantage of the home crowd support and push the Red Sox hard. That wasn’t the case as the Blue Jays went down without much of a fight bringing their record to 3-10 this season with the Red Sox. The Blue Jays have also lost 8 out of the 9 matches to the Red Sox at the Rogers Centre.

There were three home runs scored during the game. Raffy Lopez scored one for the Blue Jays while Hanley Ramirez and Mitch Moreland scored for the Red Sox. The Blue Jays had a number of opportunities early in the game and later in the fourth and seventh but they were unable to make it count.

In a statement, Toronto starter J.A. Happ said

It seems like they keep coming at you, for sure. It's a tough lineup, 1 through 9. They're in first place for a reason right now. They were tough this series, for sure. Those are the plays that are the difference in games, especially lately for us. To break it open would have been nice but we just couldn't hold on there

The Blue Jays started their seasons poorly with 5 consecutive losses and then started to turn things around. They have once again hit a poor patch with this latest loss to the Red Sox and have now suffered four consecutive series losses. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons admitted that his team has played poor baseball this season but said they had no other option but to deal with it and move on quickly.

The next series for the Blue Jays is a four match series against the Baltimore Orioles who are on a roll having won their last seven series in a row. The Baltimore Orioles are currently in third place on the points table and will play their first game against the Blue Jays on 31 August.
