Edmonton Oilers Continue to Struggle as Golden Knights Win 6-3

The Edmonton Oilers have been struggling this year, but it took less than a minute for Connor McDavid to score for the Oilers, but it was the Golden Knights who changed the game.

At the end of the third period, it was the Vegas Golden Knights with six, the Oilers with three, and for Edmonton fans, the early anticipation and hope was taken away and replaced with another loss for the struggling Canadian franchise.

Leon Draisaitl and Alex Chiasson scored Edmonton’s other two goals. Drake Caggiula, Leon Draisaitl, Matt Benning, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each earned assists. However, it was the Golden Knights Jonathan Marchessault who once again proved dominant in both speed and skill last night scoring twice and earning an assist.

The Knights scored three goals in just over two minutes during the second period. The first came at the 17:38, the second at 16:08 and the third at 15:26 to take a 4-2 lead over Edmonton, and it didn’t get much better for the Edmonton Oilers.

Jonathan Marchessault said the team need to build off Sundays win adding,

“We had a tough first 20 games and everybody knows that. We need to catch up from our slow start. There is no magic, we just have to play fast. If we play fast, we’re giving options to each other quick and we’re playing our best and that’s what we did tonight.”

The Golden Knights have seemed to fix the problems that burdened them at the beginning of the season and have won two of their last three games. For Cody Eakin, he feels that they came out strong in the second and it all came together. He added,

“We had a few in the back of the net, that’s what we needed. It’s been a little inconsistent and hopefully we can build a little momentum here and play the way we need to be successful.”

Connor McDavid, who scored the opening goal feels the frustration. During post-game interviews, the captain of the Oilers said,

“Obviously it is frustrating, there is no other way to say it. Especially because we have shown we can be a good team. We had that 8-1-1 stretch where we looked really good and now we have wavered and find ourselves dipping a bit. We just have to get back to that brand of hockey that we know we can play.”

After the Knights tied in the later part of the first, Edmonton was able to regain the lead with a power play goal early into the second period. However, it quickly went downhill from there after the blistering series of goals the Knights put past the pads of Cam Talbot.

Edmonton’s sloppy play in the second cost them any chance of going home with the win, and with the Oilers scheduled to next play the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, they better find the missing link if they want to see results.
