Boston Red Sox Tie AL Championship Series

Boston red sox celebrate after winning game 2 against Houston in the AL Championship series on Sunday

The Boston Red Sox were down one going into game 2 of the AL Championship series, and going down two wasn’t an option, not for the Red Sox, especially not for David Price, their star pitcher.

All Price cared about was earning what would have been his first in a post-season start, and was one short for qualifying after the Red Sox succeeded in beating the Houston Astros 7-5 on Sunday in Boston.

Price insisted the win was bigger than David Price and that it was not about him, but about the Red Sox. Prices pitching was solid, but so to were the relievers and that was what counted, it was a team effort, from the pitching to the batters to the infield and the dugout.

Jackie Bradley Jr’s three-run double gave Boston its shining moment and what was needed to claim victory over Houston. In doing so, they tied the series 1-1 before returning to Houston for Game 3.

Last night’s win was a first for David Price, who had yet to play on a team in the post-season game that won when he was the starter. For Price, it is all about baby steps, commenting that

“I expect myself to be great in big moments, and I haven’t done that thus far in my career. But I came here to win, period. I came here to win a World Series, and to do it multiple times. And that’s what I’m about.”

The Boston Red Sox, who are hoping to win back-to-back AL pennants, will have their chance after Game 3 and 4 of the series plays out in Houston before returning home. The worst-case scenario for Boston will be coming home down by two, and the best case will be coming home ahead by two and the chance to clinch the series at home.

The Astros, until last night, had won the last five post-season games in a row, and as for Alex Bregman, who plays third base for the Astros, it will be a fun series and is looking forward to going home. Bregman added that they came to Boston, won a game but last night, Boston played better.

The Red Sox had fallen behind 4-2 after being ahead 2-0 in the first before Jackie Bradley scored a hit to left field that nearly went past the wall falling just short – but it was enough to tie the game.

The fifth inning saw Boston up 5-4 before watching pitcher Marwin Gonzalez strike out Matt Barnes, and then go on to pitch a perfect inning in the sixth. Houston reliever, Ryan Brassier responded with an equally perfect pitched inning in the sevenths, and Red Sox reliever Rick Porcello responded in kind in the eighth. It wasn’t until the ninth when Jackie Bradley Jr’s three-run double gave Boston the room to breathe and the win they so desperately needed and wanted.

As the series heads back to the lone star state, punters wanting to bet on who will take home the pennant will have time to study stats, review last night’s game and determine which they want to put their money behind.
