The LPGA is returning to Scotland for the “2020 AIG Women’s British Open“. The Open is set to begin on August 20th and will run through to the 23rd.
While players are expected to arrive on the 19th to practise, things will be considerably different for these women in-comparison to other tournaments they’ve played, especially considering spectators will not be in attendances due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials with the LGPA announced that the “2020 AIG Women’s British Open” will be hosted in Troon at the Royal Troon Golf Club.
Similar to the lack of spectator involvement, the decision to relocate to Scotland was due to the favourable conditions and reduced virus infections. LPGA’s Public Relations Department clarified that the AIG Women’s British Open is the 1st event in 202 and will offer $6 Million in prizes to those finishing within the money.

The prestigious reputation of the Women’s British Open has grown over decades with many historic matches having been played. In its history, the tournament has seen action on South Africa, America, Sweden, Australian, South Korea, Scotland, Japan, and Taiwan, and last was played on Scotland’s shores in 2009.
Due to the coronavirus, the LPGA released COVID-19 guidelines that will govern all activity during the tournament. Its purpose is to ensure safety measures are in place to protect players, officials and staging personnel. It includes various protocols that include the wearing of face masks and of on-person hand sanitizer bottles, along with regular testing and mandatory quarantine for those testing positive.

Danielle Kang
Odds to win: 7.73
Danielle Grace Kang is an American golfer who started playing with the LPGA Tour in 2017.
After winning the U.S. Women’s Amateur Tournament in 2010 & 2011, Kang’s first year of competing resulted in a win at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
Kang has gone to earn multiple other victories including the LPGA Buick Shanghai Open at Qi Zhong Garden Gold Club and the Marathon Classic.
While previously not expected to be a favourite, the exit of top contenders from the ladies tour saw her jumping to the top of the list.
Minjee Lee
Odds to win: 12.00
Minjee Lee is a formidable competitor and have won five titles since joining the LPGA Tour in 2015.
It is expected that Lee will be one of the few who will threaten Kang for the lead.
With wins at the LPGA Medi-Heal Championship, Volvik Championship, Kingsmill Championship, Blue Bay Tournament and the Hugel-Air Premia LA Open, Lee is no stranger to doing what is needed to win.
Brooke Henderson
Odds to win: 17.00
Canadian Brooke Henderson has seen her ranking jump in recent years after continued progress and several championship wins.
While her rank may have dropped after taking time off, her return to the tour is good news for Canadian golfers.
It is expected that Henderson will keep pace with the top contenders and could potentially jump into the lead if things go her way.
Dark Horse: Marina Alex
Odds to win: 43.00
The AIG’s 2020 Women’s British Open dark horse is Marina Alex.
She’s one of the youngest competitors for this upcoming tournament, and while she has racked up several victories during her professional career.
She hasn’t managed to have much of an impact since winning the 2019 Cambia Portland Classic.
Still, she does possess some worth talents and is worth a small stake based on potential return should she manage a good performance.
Our Prediction
Our pick for winning the 2020 AIG Women’s British Open is Danielle Kang. While it would have been nice to see other contenders in the mix, Kang has the skills needed and more importantly, the drive. Watch for her stamina and strength to propel her to the top of the leaderboard.
